Harvard and Kraft Heinz Trying to Make Sugar Healthier | Read the Story Here

This week’s news story series starts with a feature on Harvard and Kraft Heinz working towards making sugar healthier. If that doesn’t make you scratch your head then we aren’t sure what will. Here’s what we know. They are working to potentially encapsulate sugar in an enzyme that would help your body absorb less sugar when it enters your body. You’ll need to tune into the episode to catch the ladies’ full opinion on this.

Starbucks Brings Back 10 Menu Items for “Veganuary” | Read the Story Here

In case you’re new to the world of “Veganuary”, it’s a mash-up of the words vegan and January and we are not here for it, but Starbucks is. In addition to the additional menu items, they both agree that Starbucks is one hundred percent just playing into the marketing/consumer trend. They are promising consumers that they won’t be up-charged this month for swapping out to plant-based milk. Now, if you like the flavor of plant-based milk, all the power to you, but please don’t do it because you think it’s saving the planet.

10 Food Predictions for 2023 | Read the Story Here

Climatarians are OUT and regenivores are IN. Natalie and Tara are diving in and going through the top ten food predictions listed by the New York Times. The article states that eating sustainably is no longer enough and the younger generations want “food from companies that are actively healing the planet through carbon-reducing agriculture, more rigorous animal welfare policies, and equitable treatment of the people who grow and process food.” We finally feel like this might be a step in the right direction! Although you won’t catch Tara calling herself a “regenivore” any time soon, she’s excited to see the forward movement.

As always, we’d love for you to join us over on the Discover Ag Instagram to let us know what you thought about today’s show and if you have any of your opinions on today’s stories. Natalie and Tara wrap up today’s episode by reflecting on 2022 and what they have planned for 2023 so make sure to tune in to catch this fun conversation to close out the show.
